A better Promise!

Here is some logic to start this post of with:

Einstein's definition of stupidity is simply doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.

This is exactly what the old covenant requires. And for so many thousands of years God has been trying to demonstrate to His beloved this very same exact point ... only, we have been so occupied with ourselves that we never got it ...

Does the Bible Say so?

The author of the book of Hebrews sums it all up in chapter 8 when he concludes "Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum ..." and then he talks about Jesus, contrasting Him against the old covenant and saying that He, Jesus, is all that anyone needs, ever.

Let's check out the last couple of verses (Heb 8:6-13):

But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

Can you see?

It says that Jesus has now obtained a more excellent and efficient ministry, being far better than the Levitical, because the covenant is better, and established on better promises.

The old covenant was an agreement and you had to keep your part

The old covenant required of you to perform perfectly to attain your own righteousness. Earthly and secular things had to be done like offering and abiding to the letter of the law. It depended exclusively on you and your abilities for something to work.

And the new Testament?

The new covenant (really a testament which is another kind of covenant) in contrast, is heavenly. It depends on NOTHING of you or your abilities. It depends exclusively on what Jesus had accomplished and is based on Grace, spiritual and eternal blessings. It is a finished word. It is a testament and for a testament to be activated someone has to die. And now Someone did! He did more. He rose and resides in you!

And what do you have to do to inherit?

Nothing!

Only receive.

To be an heir of all the riches and power and benefits of the kingdom of God you have to do what?

Receive (lambano)! That's all!

Now then, what about the law?

Let's read and make sure not to stop until we reach the very last verse of this beautiful chapter:

For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.

For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

What?

The Greek word for old is: palaioo which means to be made worn out; to declare something old and ready to be abrogated; no longer fit for use ...

Remembers this post?

Can we read that last verse again in practical English?

In all of this He has made a new covenant because the first one is no longer fit for use and because of its uselessness and impracticality, it is obsolete and abolished!

HalleluYAH!
